Our Personal History
WELCOME!!! We are David and Monica Gaw and we are fortunate to live in a lovely area 40 minutes south of Ottawa, Ontario, on a beautiful 2 acre property, surrounded by forest. It is here where we have raised our three sons and established Forestwood Miniature American Shepherds.
We both grew up with dogs at home and it was natural for us to have a canine family member as we raised our boys. When it came time for the boys to go to school, we decided to home school them and began looking for a dog who would fit seamlessly into our active household. We hoped to find a breed which would transition nicely from lots of outdoor activities with the family to relaxing in the home with us at the end of the day. We did A LOT of research and finally decided that the Australian Shepherd would be the perfect fit.
As the boys were young we wanted a dog that wouldn't be overly large and during our research we discovered there was a miniature version of the Australian Shepherd. As it turned out, this was the perfect dog for our family. Now it was the time to find a breeder. Our search led us to a breeder near London, Ontario. We really liked what we were told about the Sire and Dam (Parents) and decided to purchase our Miniature Australian Shepherd (MAS) puppy from them.
- This is Scout, their MAS puppy, the day he was brought home. He was exactly what we wanted in a family pet and created our love for the Mini Aussie breed.
Time has passed since and our family has grown we decided a few years ago to start our own kennel so we could promote this wonderful breed for others to enjoy. We wanted our foundation stock to be related to our Scout and during our research we discovered that Scout's sire (father) was the foundation for so many of the Champions in Canada today. We were lucky enough to find his lines in our foundation stock.
I, Monica am a past member of the Board of Directors for the Miniature American Shepherd of Canada. As an avid fan and promoter of the breed I encourage anyone looking for a Miniature Australian Shepherd or Miniature American Shepherd puppy to contact us.
